Game Fun

Where the hell have I been? I have a lotta nerve…

Well everyone, I apologize for taking so long to get an actual post up here.  I’m now a San Francisco resident, having been here for a month.  And since I don’t think I will be leaving anytime soon, at some point int he future I’ll begin calling this place home.  That probably will not happen until my wife and my dogs have joined me, and my parents have visited us at least once.  Until those things happen, it still feels like i’m simply on an extended on-site job.

About the job - I’m loving it!  Granted, I’m mostly doing grunt work - formatting text for publishing, cleaning up our database, and uploading assets for games - but it’s still a huge amount of fun.  After all, editing the database for a million games without needing to reference the internet once in order to determine what a game is can be quite fun.  It’s also quite sad;  the fact that I know each game in the database this well is a bit … depressing?  Or awesome.  Depending on how you look at it.  Regardless of how repetitive the work may be, I’m still honored to be working in the games industry.

I can actually say I’m a writer for WhatTheyPlay.com, and some of my pieces have actually gotten quite the rave review.  Most recently, I did a ‘Ten Things a Parent Must Know’, and the subject was Ben 10.  For those of you not in the know, I’d suggest reading the article right here. The high point of the article, in my opinion, is actually the first and only comment.

… you guys are really good at this. Keep this up. I feel confident talking about this with my nephew now. Thanks!

Something about being told that is exhilarating. I quite love it.

On the other side of the things, I’ve been working with NPR on the possibility of doing more work with them.  I’m flattered to be involved in any way, and I’ll let you know as soon as that changes.

I’ve been playing few games, sadly.  If it weren’t for Team Fortress 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4, I might not have played games at all.  As far as those games go?  I’m loving every minute of them.  With the new Pyro achievements coming tomorrow, and MGS4 being the brilliantly written piece of political commentary it is, I’m quite happy to have access to only a few games.

The rest of the time?  I work, and I work.  I put together some videos for my family - and I share them with you here.

I do love my partment - but my office is pretty cool too…

If you live San Francisco, feel free to say hello, and everyone else, I’ll drop you more blog info tomorrow.  Just make sure to post to keep me motivated!  Comment!
